Trader in court for pouring hot soup on neighbour

Accra, Jan. 23, GNA - A petty trader who poured a pot of hot soup on her neighbour over disputed rubbish appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on Friday charged with causing harm.

Rita Bemah, a nursing mother, is alleged to have been infuriated by a message passed on to her to stop throwing rubbish behind the window of her neighbour, Yaw Odame.

Bemah, aka Ama, pleaded not guilty. The court admitted her to bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 cedis to reappear on January 29. Granting her bail the Court presided over Mr D.E. K Dakatsey said it took into consideration the fact that the accused was a nursing mother. Narrating the facts of the case to the Court Chief Inspector Johnson K. Anim said Bemah and Mr Odame live adjacent to each at Dome Pillar two in Accra.

The prosecutor said on January 11, this year, Mr Odame saw a heap of rubbish dumped behind his window. Mr Odame who suspected the accused complained about her conduct and asked her to stop it if she was one. This infuriated Bemah who proceeded to Odame's house and confronted him.

The prosecution said the complainant did not utter a word but Bemah got hold of a pot of soup his wife was preparing for his fufu and poured it on him.

The prosecution said Mr Odame sustained serious injuries on his body and was rushed to Achimota Hospital where he was treated and discharged. On January 14 Mr Odame's condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the hospital again where he spent five days. 23 Jan. 09
