Trader jailed for disturbing court proceedings

Cape Coast Feb. 9 GNA- A 40-year-old trader, who caused commotion by slapping an accused person in court room, thereby holding up proceedings was on Monday sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment, with hard labour, by a circuit court at Cape Coast.

Francis Amissah pleaded guilty to disturbing court proceedings. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Hope Azasoo, told the court that sometime in January this year, at about 1000 hours, a case involving one Nicholas Ohene Ayisi and the Republic in which Amissah was the complainant, was called and adjourned to February 9.

He said just as Ayisi was leaving Amissah slapped him. The court, presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, therefore ordered his arrest when he showed up at the court on Monday, in connection with the case against Ayisi.
