Tribunal Fines 2 Teenagers

Two Apprentice seamstresses have been slapped a fine of ?55,000 each for failing to honour a community contribution towards raising funds to repair the only surviving borehole that served the people but got broken down since January, this year, at Ntom in the Upper Denkyira district. The two are Jennifer Adwoa Kwayie and Akos, both teenagers as claimed.

According to their father, Kojo Edua Ampong, a farmer, although he had paid for the fine, the verdict was not justifiable and even felt extorted when he was made to pay ?5,000 as receipt fee with number 204717.

The tribunal was presided over by Mr. J.A Djan of the Dunkwa Community Tribunal in the first week of May, 2001. Chronicle was told by the assemblyman and the chairman of the unit committee of the area, Mr. Joseph Gyapong and Mr. Francis Adjei respectively that out of the six boreholes that served the people with drinkable water during the Limann regime, only one was currently functioning.

The rehabilitation of the borehole is expected to cost about ?2 million.
