Two armed robbers remanded

TWO men who allegedly went about with a gang and robbed unsuspecting individuals in the Accra Metropolis have appeared before an Accra circuit tribunal.

The accused persons, Mallam Ibrahim and Ebenezer Lartey, both 23, are said to have been on the police wanted list for a long time now in connection with a series of armed robberies in the city.

They have been charged with two charges of conspiracy and robbery in the current case.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charges and the tribunal, chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson-Yebuah, remanded them in prison custody.

They would re-appear on June 8, this year.

Prosecuting, Inspector J. Anneh Kwame told the tribunal that the complainants in the case are police personnel attached to the Lion Eight Police Striking Force, in Accra.

He said the accused persons and some others now at large are notorious armed robbers who have been terrorising people in the Accra Metropolis and robbingthem of their valuable items including cash.

The prosecutor said at about 12 a.m. on May 4, this year, police personnel, under the command of Inspector Jerry Ahianyo, were on their normal patrols when they had information that Ibrahim and Ebenezer together with others at large had robbed some people and had gone to hide at the Akapopo Hotel near the beach at Korle Gonno, a surburb of Accra.

According to the prosecutor, the team proceeded to the said hotel and arrested Ibrahim and Ebenezer together with their girl friends.

Inspector Kwame said one of the girl friends led the team to the hideout of the other accomplices but the team did not meet them.

The prosecutor said during preliminary investigations, it came to light that Ebenezer was on police wanted list for similar offence whilst Ibrahim was also involved in another robbery case and had been on bail.

He said the police are making efforts to arrest the other accomplices who are wanted for their alleged involvement in series of robbery cases which had been going on in Accra.
