Kumasi, May 11, GNA-Two male workers of the 24 Hour Drilling Company in Kumasi, met their death on Sunday afternoon when they were electrocuted at Moshie Zongo, a suburb of Kumasi.
The deceased, Akeebe Krekpe, 28 and Akolounyo Banawo, 30, were drilling a water borehole for a customer when the incident occurred, resulting in their instant death.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwaku Buah, the Tafo-Pankrono District Police Commander, briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said Banawo was the first to be electrocuted as he was mounting the drilling machine on a vehicle which unknown to him had come into contact with an 11,000 volt overhead high tension cable. He said Krekpe, realising what had befallen his colleague decided to go to his aid and was also electrocuted instantly as his body came into contact with the charged vehicle.
DSP Buah stated that the bodies of the deceased had since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Morgue for autopsy, adding that the Police for now did not suspect any foul play.
