A Sekondi circuit court yesterday remanded a 22-year old unemployed, Isaac Mensah, in police custody for stealing ?200,000 belonging to a roommate and attempting to escape from police cells.
His plea was not taken and would re-appear on October 17.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Kuma Mensah told the court that both the suspect and complainant, Mr. Charles Hansen, live in the same room at Takoradi.
Inspector Mensah said, the suspect runs errands for the complainant and on October 7, this year, the complainant detected that ?200,000 he kept in his drawer was missing.
The suspect was confronted but he denied stealing the money and the case was reported to the police who arrested Mensah.
Inspector Mensab alleged that while the suspect was in cells he tried to cut through the iron bars with a hacksaw blade with the intention to escape.
