Details of voting at the just ended 19th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) have been released by Charterhouse Ghana, organizers of the annual event.
Per the tabulation compiled by International Audit firm KMPG, the ‘One Corner’ hitmaker, Patapaa, placed third as he was beaten by the late Dancehall artiste Ebony Reigns who placed second
According to the statistics, Tamale-based Fancy Gadam led the chart with 28.12% of the votes followed closely by Ebony who bagged 22.82%, Patapaa trailed closely with 18.14% while Shatta Wale had 12.79%.
The rest in that category had less than 10% respectively
The ‘One Corner‘ act claimed he lost because the organizers took “stupid money” to hand the award to Fancy Gadam.
The visibly angry ‘One Corner’ act said patrons at the event venue even showed their displeasure when Fancy Gadam was named as the winner of the category.
Patapaa, unfortunately, left the 2018 VGMAs disappointed as contrary to the outcome, he expected to win at least one of the awards.
The artiste reportedly bragged about winning the 2018 VGMA most popular song of the year and it turned out he didn’t.
"My one corner hit track will win most popular song of the year in next year’s VGMA’s,” he disclosed. God Opens the way out of the blue, as you all can attest to how viral one corner went, surely it is going to grab the most popular song of the year subject to next year’s VGMA awards,” he reportedly said on Happy FM’s Showbiz Xtra.
