Value-Added Tax On DStv

MultiChoice Ghana has been charged by the National Revenue Secretariat to collect value-added tax (VAT) at the statutory rate of 12.5% from all digital service, DStv subscribers, with immediate effect.

Under the VAT Act 1998, Act 546, VAT is a general tax on all consumption expenditure, both consumables and services such as telephone and electricity services.

Mr. Samuel Baimbill-Johnson, Financial Manager of MultiChoice said VAT payment will take effect from the 1st of September 2003.

He went on to say that "in order to cushion the effect to normal household subscribers, there will be a reduction on our Premium Bouquet subscription for both C Band and W4 with effect from the same date by $4.50 so that the total cost to you is up only by 4.13%.

This will bring the total monthly subscription, including VAT to $63 instead of $68. Meanwhile, MutliChoice Ghana has launched the newest addition to their KTV bouquet.

GO as the new channel is to be known, is aimed specifically at the increasingly sophisticated 13 - 20-year-old age bracket.

GO hit the airwaves on 1 August, on DStv's Channel 84 and will initially broadcast from 4PM - 7PM Ghana time, on premium bouquets across all platforms daily.

The channel will offer a wide range of programming, from sitcoms, dramas to reality programmes, animation series and local programming.
