Accra, July 19, GNA - Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Wednesday renewed his call on the British Government to help to resuscitate the Afienya Gliding School in the Greater Accra Region to whip up the desire of Ghanaians to fly.
He said giving a kiss of life to the School required provision of gliders to motivate the youth to dream of a lifelong career with the Ghana Air Force.
Vice President Alhaji Mahama was speaking during a meeting with a team of 11 Cadets from the UK visiting Ghana under the auspices of the International Air Cadet Exchange.
He recounted his experience as a cadet during his secondary school days, which he said instilled in him discipline and a sense of nationalism.
The Vice President said President John Agyekum Kufuor was also once a cadet and asked the volunteers to apply the principle of self comportment and discipline, typical of their training during their stay in Ghana.
Mr Osei Bonsu Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports, said under the exchange programme 19 Ghanaian cadets were on a reciprocal visit to Britain.
Mrs Menna Rawlings, Deputy British High Commissioner, noted that it was fantastic for young people in her country to visit Ghana to learn about life in Africa.
Squadron Leader Amanda Smith, the Leader of the Team, said Ghana was the first country to benefit from the programme and expressed the hope that other African countries would benefit from subsequent programmes.
