From the days when she was called Christiana Love, Ghanaians have enjoyed great tunes from beautiful gospel singer now known as Obaapa Christy.
The musician whose recent single, “Hyebre Sesafo” has gained her two nominations at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards has many hit songs to her credit.
Most often, many gospel musicians tell the world they get lyrics for their songs when bathing, eating, reading the bible or engaging in other activities and write them before entering the studio to compose a song but that is not same for the 2016 VGMAs Gospel Artiste Of The Year and Gospel Song Of The Year nominee.
Christy on Accra FM’s gospel entertainment show, Gospel 360 told Andy Favured, host of the show and listeners that she does not write her songs. According to her, she starts to sing anytime she enters the studio without writing a word on a paper. Speaking on how she recorded the hit song, “Hyebre Sesafo”, the award-winning gospel artiste narrated that she had the title of the song after someone concluded her testimony with it.
She continued that she did not look on a book when recording the song as others do. According to her, what did the magic for her whilst recording the song with Dan Bassey was the tongues in the song.
She revealed that the tongues gave her room to think about lyrics to add to the song.
Sound engineer, Dr Ray Beatz in a separate interview with Zionfelix.com also confirmed that Obaapa Christy does not write her songs.
Sharing his experience whilst recording with her years ago, Dr. Ray disclosed “when I dropped the beat, everything started coming. That day that she came, she had no paper. When I started playing the beat, she just had the ideas and she created everything”
