Violence Breaks Out At Ablekuma.

A mob believed to be land guards yesterday scuttled the planned out-dooring of Nii Larbie Mensah V as Ablekuma Mantse and Sempe Atofo.

The suspected land guards attacked the chief and his retinue on its way to the out-dooring grounds.

The convoy about eight had to make a swift turn-around as the land-guards who had laid ambush, started firing shots from locally manufactured guns, throwing stones and brandishing machetes.

The mob shattered the windscreens of several cars and poked machetes at the occupants. According to the Ghana News Agency, a Datsun Saloon car carrying two armed policemen detailed to maintain law and order was first attacked. Though the reason for the attack is not known, some residents of Ablekuma say they suspected that the attackers belong to a faction opposed to the out-dooring of Nii Mensah as Ablekuma Mantse.

Ablekuma was in the news some two years ago when land guards gruesomely murdered two policemen men over pieces of land they had purchased at Ablekuma. The trial of those alleged to have committed the crime still continues.
