WAJU hunts for man for impregnating girl, 15

The Women and Juvenile Unit (WAJU) of the Ghana Police has ordered the arrest of a 30-year man for abandoning a 15-year-old girl he has impregnated.

The man, Kofi Aboagye, is alleged to have impregnated the girl when she was staying with her elder sister at North Kaneshie.

According to an elder sister, Miss Stella Lartey, her younger sister, Doris Lartey, was staying with her but due to accommodation problem she asked her to go and stay with their mother at Worawora till the problem is solved.

She said after about four months, it was detected that Doris was pregnant and when she was questioned, she mentioned Aboagye as the person responsible.

Doris was therefore brought down to Accra and taken to Aboagye’s house for verification. On seeing them Aboagye’s uncle admitted seeing Doris several times in the house and so was sure his nephew was the one responsible for the pregnancy.

The uncle allegedly gave them an amount of ?300,000 to abort the pregnancy but at the hospital they were told the pregnancy was five months old and therefore there could be complications should they attempt to abort it.

However both Aboagye and his uncle did not show any interest in the upkeep of the girl and when Stella went to enquire why they have abandoned her sister, Aboagye allegedly denied any knowledge of the pregnancy.

As a result of the non-cooperative attitude of Aboagye, the case was reported to WAJU
