After seeing the premiere of the new Ghanaian comedy, ‘Wanna Be’, I surely don’t mind recommending it for people to see. It a nice comedy flick with plenty moments of laughs; something that has been missing in most ‘non-Agya Koo’ movies in recent times.
The story may not be new but the characters were refreshingly new and even the popular faces in the movie played roles that could be considered as unusual; and I particularly liked it. I particularly didn’t like most of the over-stretched scenes, which did not just drag the movie on but also lost some of the humour on me. For instance, we didn’t need to see over 5 minutes of different scenes showing the effects of taking a purgative.
‘Wanna Be’ is a story of a girl from a very poor background who desperately wants to belong in the high society. It tells the story of three friends Liana, Kate and Caroline. Liana is from a poor background while Kate and Caroline are well to do. To feel accepted, Liana results to bragging and constant lies, assuming a character far from her reality. As she continues living the lie, a gold digging plumber gets attracted to her thinking he can make money from her. Meanwhile, she falls for a gate boy who drives his master’s posh cars around town.
‘Wanna Be’ stars Yvonne Nelson, Prince David Osei, Nana Akua Addo, Eddie Nartey, Zynell Zuh and directed by Pascal Amanfo.
