Renowned Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani has called for individuals in the creative sector to engage in politics.

This, she believes, is essential for advocating greater government backing for the creative arts industry.

During her appearance on The Afternoon Show on TV3, Akofa Edjeani said that the creative industry, which has historically been under-supported by the government, would benefit from more creatives actively participating in politics.

“We should go into politics. We have been sitting on the fence for too long... We should help build the Ghana we want.

“The people there are not doing what they should do, they are just drafting policies that are affecting us in a bad way, so I don’t see anything wrong with going into politics to make things right,” she said.

Several creative personalities, including John Dumelo, Baaba Sadiq, Fred Nuamah, KOD, and Bibi Bright, have already taken steps towards political involvement, with public declarations of their political affiliations.

John Dumelo is set to run for the Ayawaso West Wuogon MP seat with the NDC, while media entrepreneur Baaba Sadiq aims for the Okaikoi Central Constituency seat.

Fred Nuamah, who initially intended to contest the NDC parliamentary primaries for the same seat as Dumelo, has withdrawn but remains committed to contesting in the future.
