The decision by some showbiz personalities to go into politics has become a topic for discussion on several traditional and electronic media platforms.

The conversation has seen people express divergent views. While some believe it is a good move that will help the arts, others doubt the competence of these aspirants.

Sound engineer and producer Zapp Mallet has stated that the decision by showbiz personalities to go into politics is worth commended. According to him, should there be more of such people in Parliament, the creative arts sector will see tremendous change.

Speaking on Pluzz FM’s AM Pluzz on Wednesday, Zapp Mallet said the showbiz personalities will help shape policies in the arts industry since they know what really goes on in the sector.

“It’s encouraging, we need more of those people because certain policies concerning the arts are not regarded. Even if regarded, it’s on face value; there is no in-depth in it. But if we have more showbiz people in there, then policies concerning the arts would be in-depth and much more interesting for the industry. When we have more showbiz persons there, it will add to the weight,” he told host Sammy Flex.

On the issue of some personalities joining the race just for popularity sake, Zapp Mallet said it would be best if the reason is to serve the arts and the country as a whole.

“Some may have all other reasons, arterial motives… but at the end of the day, for me, it shouldn’t be like that,” he noted.

Actor, Abraham Kofi Davies popularly known as Salinco has declared his intention to contest in the Progressive People’s Party’s primaries at the Atwima Kwawoma Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

Already, television personality Kwame Djokoto, actress Ebi Bright, and Don Arthur have secured their candidature on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tarkwa Nsuaem, Tema Central and Effutu constituencies respectively.
