Being a celebrity often comes with the glitz, glamour, and money that many can only dream of (arguably).

However, what often goes unnoticed is the significant stress these celebrities endure on their ascent to fame.

This issue has been highlighted by several emerging Ghanaian artistes who have shared the challenges they and their peers face in their efforts to gain recognition in Ghana and beyond.

One such artist, Kwesi Amewuga, in an interview with Ahoma FM at Cape Coast, lamented the financial struggles many rising artistes encounter.

The artist, who is also a nominee for the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards Unsung Artiste of the Year, mentioned that for those living in non-urban areas, transportation to the studio and securing funds for studio sessions are substantial obstacles.

"The issue is primarily about money. Studio fees are a major problem for us. I live in an area with few studios (the Volta Region), and even getting to the studio is a challenge," he said.

Another up-and-coming dancehall artiste, Alaptawan, discussed her struggles with societal acceptance and funding as a female artist in the Upper East Region.

"It's not easy because the place I'm coming from is quite far, and finding money for studio time is also a challenge.

"Acceptance is another issue. Being a female dancehall artist has been hard for many to accept because they feel such a genre is for men," she stated.

Alaptawan also noted the scarcity of media outlets in non-urban areas that could highlight the talents originating from these regions.

"Furthermore, there are very few media houses there to showcase the works of talents. There are about two radio stations in my vicinity but no TV station, which is not enough to push the amazing works of many talents," she added.

Alaptawan and Kwesi Amewuga are among other rising artistes, including Kasar, Lali X Lola, Keeny Ice, and Seven Kizs, who have been nominated for the prestigious Unsung Artiste of the Year category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2024.

This year marks the 11th anniversary of the Unsung category, an initiative by the award scheme to amplify the presence of up-and-coming artistes and propel them into the limelight.

The Unsung category has served as a springboard for artists like MzVee, Kuami Eugene, Epixode, Dope Nation, the late Ebony Reigns, and Kelvyn Boy, who all utilized this platform before achieving greater success.

The nominees will also be performing on May 11, 2024, at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast, setting the stage for an unforgettable main awards event in a few weeks.

As a highlight of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2024, the Xperience Concert promises to be an electrifying showcase featuring nearly all of Ghana's premier musicians.
