Ghanaian actress and producer Kafui Danku has shared her thoughts on the challenges facing the country's film industry and her hopes for its revival.

In an interview with Hitz FM’s Doreen Avio, Kafui Danku acknowledged the long-standing issues of funding and distribution, which she says have worsened over time.

Despite these challenges, she remained optimistic and called for stakeholders in the movie industry to stay committed to contributing to the industry's improvement.

“Funding distribution has always been a challenge. But then it's gotten worse. It declined some more. And I was hoping it would be better. But then, if we all stop putting in effort, or maybe if we kill our passions, it's never going to get any better. So I'm like, let's just get back to work, still do our parts, and try to maybe step harder this time, maybe do something different, and see if something would change or if we can be a part of the change,” she said.

Kafui Danku further expressed her belief that the return of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to power would bring positive changes to the industry.

“I'm still here, hoping. I'm still hopeful that it can get better. Especially when my party wins, when the NDC is back in power, it will get better,” she added.

Danku praised Mahama's passion for the arts and his plans to support the industry, including the introduction of 5G technology to enhance content creation and support for veteran creatives.

“I've heard him even talk about how passionate he is, how he can't wait for us to enjoy 5G so we can create our content, how he has plans for us. And I know, I'm sure you've seen in the news where he's been supporting some old actors and all that. You can tell that he has some passion for the arts. And even for the people who paved the way, who are no longer working, he still has them at heart. So I know definitely that when he's back in power, he's going to do something to make it better,” she said.

Reflecting on the current economic difficulties, Kafui Danku criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the high cost of living and unstable exchange rates, which have impacted her projects.

"I am a Ghanaian, I live in Ghana, and I work in Ghana. Are you not feeling the heat? During somebody's era, we had this exchange rate thing. It was much better. I was working on a project. Do you know the project is stuck because when the people bring me the quotes when I go and collect my susu and want to go in the project, the thing changes? I have to go and raise more Susu. It's affected me a lot. Cost of living. I felt it over a couple of years,” she said.

She urged Ghanaians to vote for the NDC, emphasizing the need for change and the potential benefits of the 24-hour economy proposed by Mahama.
