Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Fella Makafui recently shared insights into why many of her business ventures failed.
Speaking at the “After School, What’s Next?” summit organised by Ghana Tertiary Awards on Friday, October 18, 2024, the ‘YOLO’ actress admitted that a lack of consistency was a significant factor in the collapse of her businesses.
She revealed that she often jumped from one business idea to another rather than focusing on long-term goals for them.
“I would be doing this, this next minute, the moment I hear that this other business is good, I jump into it.
“Until about 5 years ago, I just sat down, listed all the businesses that had gone down and I realised that there was nothing wrong with them, just that I stopped along the way. Meanwhile, people who carried on made a lot of money from them,” she recounted.
Reflecting on her venture, Fella Wine and Liquor, she explained that she initially thought her friends would support the business since they enjoyed drinking.
However, she soon realised that the business was not a good fit for her, as she is not the outgoing type. This mismatch contributed to the business's struggles.
“When I opened the wine shop, after some years, I realised that I don't go out. I wasn't the outgoing type I couldn't go to clubs to introduce people to the wine business. So any money I made went back to the business, I wasn’t seeing any profits,” she explained.
Makafui also highlighted that a business will suffer if the owner is not fully committed.
She added that she had learned valuable lessons from her experiences and is now more aware of the importance of dedication and consistency in entrepreneurship.
