Ghanaian actor and comedian who was recently elected as the parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress for the Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency, Kwame Dzokoto has revealed that he initially had no intention of contesting.

The host of ‘Edziban’ on TV3 on The Exclusive Chat with Real Eugene on Radio Univers stated that the party faithfuls in his constituency had decided and went ahead to print and distribute his posters before seeking his consent.

‘…before I realised they’ve picked my profile picture on facebook. They developed the poster with a lot of mistakes. People were bashing me all over. So these people came to apologise.’

According to Kwame Dzokoto, the members of the NDC in Tarkwa Nsuaem had contacted him long before they embarked on that act but he was reluctant to give in to their demand of contesting for the candidature.

He cited contracts with some corporate entities which barred him from taking partisan stands as a reason for his earlier decline of the offer.

‘I told them I don’t have time… I was not ready because I was in contract with some of these corporate companies. They don’t want you to affiliate with politicians.’

The actor and radio personality eventually succumbed to the wish of his fellow party members after he realised his posters were widespread and some elderly folks had convinced him to contest.

‘My elder Uncle Kofi Totobi Kwakye… said they have faith in me. Pick it (forms). So we decided to join in and help’

When asked by Real Eugene why the youth in the area had so much confidence in him, Kwame Dzokoto responded by saying that he had a good relationship with some state officials which resulted in the constituency benefitting from a number of developmental projects.

He added that his prominence enabled him gain attention from some government ministries who in turn responded promptly whenever there was a problem they needed the government to solve in their community.

‘The youth started by asking that I should advocate for their problems to be solved. I have been persistent to the extent that I have gained the attention of the ministers. These made the people realise that I was the right man for the job’

It will be recalled that Kwame Seth Dzokoto emerged winner of the National Democratic Congress’ 21st November Primaries, giving him the nod to contest as an aspiring Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency.

He polled overwhelming 1,450 votes whiles his contender Thomas Okyere managed to poll 398 votes.

The showbiz icon disclosed that raising the standard of education in Tarkwa Nsuaem is one of his priorities. And thus, plans are already in place to ensure that the dream is materialised.
