Kumawood actress Portia Asare has revealed the reasons behind the collapse of her second marriage, stating that her husband's decision to not provide for her needs despite forcing her to quit acting caused the separation.

The actress confirmed her divorce from Raymond Kwaku Marfo, three years after their marriage in 2021.

This marks her second divorce, following her previous marriage to Pastor John Wilberforce Aidoo, which ended before she returned to the public eye in 2019.

Shedding light on the challenges she faced with her husband in an interview with Ahodwo TV, Portia Asare detailed how her husband made her quit acting but did not provide any money for upkeep, nor did he provide any capital for her to start a business he was comfortable with.

"You said you didn't want me acting any longer, yet you didn’t bother to provide me with any money to start a business. You couldn’t look after me, yet you made me leave my work," she recounted.

Portia Asare explained that she had been using her acting career to support her expenses before marriage.

"I was using the acting to take care of my personal expenses. If I needed about GH₵500 cedis monthly, I could afford it. That was how I was living till I got married.

“Now, you come and you couldn’t help me continue that system and you would allow me to add my own money to the little you're bringing so it works together," she said.

She explained that the lack of partnership and support in marriages is responsible for the collapse of many marriages because this core mandate is often missing and stated how she had been struggling to rebuild herself after her second marriage.

“That's why many marriages don’t last long; the core mandate of marriage is missing from it. You came into the marriage to push me up the ladder, not bring me down.

"You go into a marriage for two to three years and by the time you leave, you have to build yourself from scratch all over again," she added.
