Why Sarkodie wants to focus more on English rap than vernacular - Hammer explains

Renowned Ghanaian music producer, Edward Nana Poku Osei, known as Hammer, has shed light on why rapper Sarkodie is now focusing on English in his music.

The producer believes that rapping in English expands an artiste's reach, potentially increasing income and financial gains.

Hammer pointed out that rapping in local languages can restrict an artiste's audience compared to English.

In a conversation with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM, Hammer expressed that Sarkodie's shift towards English rap could elevate his career and financial success.

"Vernacular is more marketable in singing than rapping because songs have melodies, while rap is driven by lyrics and beats. So the whole point about this thing is that Sarkodie has suffered out there. The reason why he has transformed into an English rapper is, that he has to move on because the vernacular rap will limit you.

"And so he has done well with this new album, 'No Pressure.' That was crazy English rap. I didn't even think that Sarkodie could rap that much in English. I was very, very impressed,” he stated.
