While Ghana celebrated President John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration on January 7, 2025, some entertainment personalities found themselves at the centre of controversy on social media due to posts made during and after the moment.
Although some of their posts were not directly related to the inauguration, the timing and context of the messages led to backlash from netizens.
Here are some individuals who were dragged for their posts:
Prince David Osei
Actor Prince David Osei faced heavy criticism on social media for a recent post he made on X.
After Mahama’s inauguration, Prince David Osei, a staunch member of the NPP, extolled the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his exceptional leadership and visionary approach, expressing confidence in Bawumia's future endeavors.
However, some netizens reacted negatively to the post, questioning the actor for putting the spotlight on Bawumia at that moment. Others also questioned the sincerity of his extollment.
Agya Koo
Kumawood actor Agya Koo also faced backlash on social media for his post on X, where he expressed gratitude and admiration for outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In his message, Agya Koo praised Nana Addo's legacy and expressed confidence that time would vindicate his efforts.
The post received mixed reactions, with some supporting Agya Koo’s sentiments, while others harshly criticized him.
Sarkodie
On January 8, 2025, a day after the inauguration, Sarkodie sparked a heated debate on social media with a post that read, "Back to gari soakings like we never left."
While the post wasn't directly about the inauguration, many interpreted it as a reaction to President John Dramani Mahama’s return to office.
This interpretation gained traction, especially since the rapper had been relatively silent during the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, leading netizens to speculate about his political alignment with the NPP.
The post generated mixed reactions as some critics accused him of hypocrisy, while others threatened to withdraw their support.
