The Chief Executive Officer of Image Bureau, George Quaye, has detailed Uncle Ebo Whyte’s contribution to the establishment of the event management company disclosing that the renowned playwright once gave him a cheque for the commencement of the enterprise.

In a soon-to-be-aired GhanaWeb documentary celebrating Uncle Ebo Whyte, George Quaye, who served in various roles at Charterhouse, including Public Relations Officer, recalled their interactions. He highlighted not only the valuable wisdom imparted by the playwright and motivational speaker but also his acts of benevolence.

“When I left Charterhouse, it was a very critical moment in my life,” said George Quaye. “It was a difficult time for me. A few things occurred that I didn’t anticipate. I got a bit broken, I found myself questioning the meaning of loyalty, the meaning of commitment.”

He continued: “I got a bit depressed at how a few things had panned out. I had a conversation with Uncle Ebo Whyte about it and the words that he shared with me that day, those words have always lived with me, those words have kept me going.

“It wasn’t just the words; after our encounter, the man gave me an envelope and said, ‘Don’t open it till you get home’. I opened Uncle Ebo Whyte’s envelope when I got home and it was a cheque. And that cheque is part of all the contributions that we got to start Image Bureau. So, had it not been for that cheque, there probably wouldn’t have been an Image Bureau today.”

Uncle Ebo Whyte was born on July 20, 1954. Known in real life as James Ebo Whyte, the storyteller has profoundly influenced countless lives, entertaining and inspiring a nation.

A visionary, playwright, author, and motivational speaker, his name resonates with wisdom, creativity, and an indomitable spirit.

The GhanaWeb documentary aims to both celebrate his revival of theatre and document his significant contributions to the arts.

Featuring insights from various personalities who Ebo Whyte has impacted, the film uncovers intriguing details about the playwright. It delves into his journey from early failures and financial struggles – losing his car, and job, and even burning his certificates – to his unbowed faith and eventual success.

Titled ‘Ebo Whyte: A Legacy of Inspiration and Creativity’, the documentary will premiere on August 19, 2024, at 10 AM on the YouTube channel GhanaWeb TV and our website www.ghanaweb.com.
