Ghanaian actor Clement Bonney, popularly known as ‘Mr. Beautiful’ has accused the government of being responsible for the rise in divorce cases in the country.
He stated that Akufo-Addo's government has driven the economy to a point where many husbands struggle to support their wives.
He supported his claims by citing conversations with Ghanaians who attributed many marriage dissolutions to the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government's handling of the economy.
Speaking with TV3’s Johnnie Hughes, he said, “A lot of men have divorced their wives. This government contributes to why some Ghanaian men have divorced their wives. I walk on the streets and work with street guys, so I know what is happening on the streets. The divorce rates under this government are unprecedented. If a man sleeps with his wife but he’s unable to give her money for upkeep, won’t she leave the marriage to her mother’s house?”
“Ask taxi drivers about their pickups at various homes, and they'll tell you they were collecting belongings of divorced women. I have friends and a car, so I know what I am saying. Wives are migrating to their families in Ghana every day because of the poor management of Akufo-Addo and his family,” he emphasised.
There is truly a rapid increase in divorce in Ghana, and this was disclosed by legal practitioners as a result of the number of marriages brought to them for dissolution.
As these legal practitioners blame the sudden surge on other factors like cheating and behaviour, with the former being the major cause, the Ghanaian actor believes that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration is the cause of the collapse of recent marriages in the country.
