Woman peppers rival?s eyes

A 20-YEAR-OLD trader who sprayed pepper into the eyes of her rival at Ankamu in the Gomoa District of the Central Region has been bonded to be of good behaviour for six months.

Charlotte Arthur, also known as Lady Kakra, pleaded guilty with explanation, but the circuit court at Dawurampong, presided over by Mr Paul Kwesi Richardson, dismissed her explanation and handed her the bond, adding that if she defaults she will go to prison for three months.

She explained that she was preparing food when she spotted Yaw Attah, 22, her husband with whom she has a child, engaged in conversation with Efua Darkowaah and attempted to slap Atta but the blow hit Darkowaah instead. She denied spraying Darkowaah?s eyes with pepper.

However, Chief Inspector Richard Doku of the Apam police station, told the court that Darkowaah, 20, a hairdresser, is a former girlfriend of Attah, who has a child with her but had performed no customary rites on her.He said on October 27, at about 7.00 p.m., there was a dance at Ankamu to climax the town?s annual Akwanbo Festival.

The prosecutor said Charlotte, who was around that time, spotted Darkowaah and Attah standing near the dance hall and without their notice, darted home and prepared a pepper solution into a syringe.

The prosecutor said Charlotte returned to the spot, saw Attah and Darkowaah still engaged in a conversation and sprayed the pepper solution into Darkowaah?s eyes, making her temporarily blind.Charlotte was rushed to the Apam Catholic Hospital where she was treated and discharged.

The prosecutor said a report was made to the police who arrested Charlotte and charged her with the offence.
