Workshop for radio station managers in Africa opens

Accra, April 3, GNA - Radio station managers in Africa on Monday started a three-day workshop in Accra to review modern management techniques to improve their skills in managing radio.

The workshop is being organised by Theovision International, a local Christian media organization, in collaboration with a UK-based organization, International Communication Training Institute (ICTI). The Reverend Theodore Asare, President of Theovision, said the programme was particularly developed for radio managers with on-the-job training experience but without any formal training.

He said the mangers drawn from Ghana, Lesotho, Liberia, Ethiopia and South Africa would be taken through topics including; "Leadership and Management", "Strategic Planning", "Audience Research", "Challenges of Converging Media", "Promoting and Marketing Your Station", "Developing Your Staff and Keeping Your Station's Finances in Order". Rev. Asare emphasized the importance of training and said this would help to upgrade the knowledge of participants.

He said his organization, established 17 years ago, was basically involved in recording and promoting vernacular audio scriptures as well as radio and sound production. He said the radio training programme was started three years ago. 3 April 06
