One might have expected that being granted bail would allow Nana Yaa Nyarko, the freedom to appear in court without being escorted by the police.  

However, to avoid attacks from the angry mob that usually gather outside during trials, Nana Yaa, despite being granted bail, chose to let the police escort her to and from the court. 

In a video making rounds online, Nana Yaa was seen arriving at the court premises in a police van for her trial on August 27, 2024. 

After the proceedings, she was sneaked out through a backdoor and quickly sped away in the van. 

The media who got the hint and attempted to follow the police van through the backdoor to catch a glimpse of the proceedings, were stopped by the police at a certain point. 

In earlier situations when Nana Yaa was still in police custody, there was an instance she could not show up in court because she was being protected from the irate crowd that besieged the premises, waiting for her to show up. 

Being the prime suspect in the murder case, Nana Yaa is frequently subjected to ill-treatment, including being booed, chased, and attacked by the angry mob that surrounds the court premises. 

They sometimes swamp the police van transporting her to and from court. 

Bail 

Nana Yaa was granted bail by the Adum High Court on August 15, 2024. 

She and the second accused person were both granted bail of GH¢100,000 each with sureties. 



Background

Reports indicated that Wyllbee was killed in Abuakwa-Tanoso, Ashanti Region, while staying overnight at Nana Yaa Nyarko’s residence, a property reportedly owned by her 'abroad-based' husband’s family, who were unaware of Wyllbee’s presence.

According to initial accounts, on July 5, 2024, Wyllbee was seen urinating in the compound and was confronted by residents who suspected him of theft.

Wyllbee allegedly claimed he was visiting Nana Yaa, but she purportedly denied knowing him, to protect her marriage from her in-laws.

This denial led to suspicion and accusations of theft among the neighbors, culminating in Wyllbee being lynched. Reports also mention that Wyllbee's phone was destroyed with a stone during the incident.
