The entertainment industries across continents thrive on grudges between personalities; some of which are for publicity.
The Ghanaians entertainment space in 2019 witnessed some interesting grudges which not only achieved their intended purposes but also exposed the ‘ignorance’ of some acts.
GhanaWeb at the end of 2019, recounts some exciting ‘beefs’ which made headlines in the industry which not only took us by surprise but also kept us on edge.
Stonebwoy vs Shatta Wale
The new ‘best friends’ in the Ghanaian music industry were once worst enemies earlier this year and in previous years.
At the 2019 edition of Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), the two main dancehall acts in the country were at each other’s throats, a situation which marred the celebration of 20 years of Ghanaian music.
Per reports, the incident was the explosion of the simmering ‘beef’ between the two artistes.
“The confusion started when Shatta Wale and his militants rushed onto the stage when Stonebwoy was about to receive his award. Afraid of what could happen, Stonebwoy quickly pulled out a gun. The security officials at the Dome started spraying the patrons of the award with pepper spray and the guests at the VIP stand were quickly rushed out,” GhanaWeb reported.
But the ‘never-ending’ feud reached its denouement, and the two smoked the peace pipe.
Strongman vs Medikal
This grudge could easily pass as the most interesting amongst all, this year. The controversies that arose after the beef gave Ghanaians a whole different perception about East Legon.
After Medikal released ‘To Whom It May Concern’ on June 21, 2019, and claimed he saved Ghanaian rap music, Strongman Burner who didn’t seem happy about the comments made an appearance on radio to dress down Medikal.
The reprisal attacks, through music, lasted throughout an entire weekend and saw the release of songs like ‘Don’t try’, Immortal by Strongman Burner ‘The Last Burial’, from Medikal.
Kelvynboy vs Stonebwoy
Award-winning dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy and his once-upon-a-time protégé, Kelvynboy, seem to have departed on a rather rough note. The reason for their grudge still eludes many Ghanaians.
Explanations given by Stonebwoy indicated that he parted ways with KelvynBoy because of his inability to show gratitude but some entertainment critics read more beyond that.
Rumours also suggested that the problem started because Blakk Cedi – Stonebwoy’s former manager – who brought Kelvyn Boy to the label was rather focusing more on him than Stonebwoy.
This, however, has not been confirmed.
Fella Makafui vs Sister Derby
Even though the two have never admitted to holding a grudge against each other, Ghanaians deciphered and created one for them through continual social media comparison and backlashes.
It all began when Sister Derby broke up with rapper Medikal, but the impression created after their separation were as though the latter dumped the former for Fella Makafui. This situation until further clarification created a lot of buzz on social media and still continues to.
After the release of Kakalika Love, Ghanaians were convinced that Sister Derby definitely held a grudge against Fella Makafui but she has on several platforms denied as ill-feeling for her.
Moesha Buoduong Vs Salma Mumin
Most Ghanaians would have probably been oblivious to the grudge between the two actresses if Salma hadn’t spoken of it. In an interview, Salma stated categorically that Moesha is the last person she’d consider talking to in the world.
Even though she didn’t provide enough explanations for her statement, Moesha Buoduong as reprisal took to her Instagram, on Sunday, December 15, 2019 to reveal some unflattering secrets about their botched friendship.
Her posts read, "Salma you are worse than me and cover your shit up with your 2by4 businesses!! You do a whole of shit and come then pretend on social media it's all hardwork!! Stop judging people for the same things you do. What brand do you have? Is it cos I publicly said what I said on CNN that's why you think you're better than me?? Salma you know I know you very very well don't push me!! Haven't you dated a lot of married men and still dating them...Salma nobody wants to be your friend because of the juju you do to take their luck from them!! A lot of people in the industry know this!!.."
