Legendary Nollywood actor Kanayo O Kanayo has cautioned young people to refrain from giving their first offering, also known in most settings as the first fruit, to their pastors.

According to the actor, a child’s first salary belongs to their father and not the church.

Kanayo O Kanayo shared a video of himself and his son, Clinton Mbaise, who had just earned his first paycheck from working as a production member.

In the video, the actor asked his son, who had just been paid N50,000, to give him N500 out of it so he could bless him.

He said, “I want to observe a long-standing African tradition from our ancestors which has made many people prosper today, a father’s blessing. Clinton, my son, just completed fifteen productions with us and has earned his first salary.

“His first salary is N50,000. Clinton, from your pocket, and of the N50,000, give me N500. Now kneel down and let me bless you, my son.”

He continued, “This is the culture of Africans, the first salary of a man, of a young man, he goes to the father to say, ‘Father, this is my first salary.’

The father may decide to take the entire money, he may also decide to take a part of it. It is our culture, after which the father would bless him.”

The actor explained that this is to help fathers teach their sons economic and financial management.

He said persons who give their first fruit to their pastors are only wasting their time.

“This is our culture and this is who we are. Your first fruit belongs to your father, so those of you who are giving it to your pastors are wasting your time,” he explained.
