Your name alone can disqualify you from winning an award – Captain Smart jabs Patapaa

Radio presenter, Captain Smart has been making headlines for his commentaries on arts and entertainment related issues of late, abrantepa.com has taken notice.

From jumping to the defense of Moesha over her statement that she sleeps with a married man for her subsistence to hailing gospel musician, Bro Sammy for releasing the ‘Nnipafoo’ song, the Adom FM morning show host this time around says Patapaa’s name can disqualify him from winning an award.

“This Patapaa guy, when did he become Patapaa? Your name alone can disqualify you from winning an award. Why do you call yourself ‘Patapaa’? Patapaa means someone who refuses to regard sensible thoughts,” he said on Daybreak Hitz.

Captain Smart’s comment was on the heels of the controversy surrounding Fancy Gadam’s victory over Patapaa at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).

A furious Patapaa in an interview alleged that Charterhouse, organisers of the award scheme took “stupid money” from Fancy Gadam in exchange for the Song of the Year award, the reason ‘Total Cheat’ won over his ‘One Corner’ song.

In a sharp rebuttal, Fancy Gadam said he won because of the solid and loyal fan base he has. He labeled Patapaa as a joke, adding that he [Fancy] will never collaborate with the Swedru singer because he is not talented.

While a section of the public has jabbed Fancy Gadam for his comment, Captain Smart says the award-winning artiste did not err.

“When you level a serious allegation against a nominee who eventually won an award that he paid stupid money, what do you expect him to do or say?” he queried.

“There are some politicians I will never invite on my show [because] they are empty. When the producers invite them, I will leave and go home,” he said in defense to Fancy Gadam’s statement that he will never feature Patapaa on a song.

Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’ was adjudged Viral Song of the Year at the maiden edition of the 3 Music Awards held on March 24, 2018.
