21 Years of NDC

STATEMENT ON THE OCCASION OF THE 21ST ANNIVERSARY OF THE FORMATION OF THE NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS

Today marks twenty one years since the formation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).On this auspicious occasion, the NDC wishes to salute all its founding fathers and founding mothers and congratulate them for the vision and foresight they showed in laying the foundations of what has remained the largest political and most vibrant political force since Ghana’s return to democratic rule in 1992.

Since its formation the NDC has upheld its core principles of probity and accountability as well the pursuit of social justice and equity for all citizens of Ghana. We have through these noble principles managed the affairs of the state when we have been elected by the good people of this country to form a government. Even when the NDC has been out of power it has presented loyal and objective opposition and has never for once sought to undermine or compromise Ghana’s peace and stability. That the NDC has won four out of six elections it has contested in is ample testimony to the confidence Ghanaians have in our Party as the most broad-based and representative of the entire country. The victories we have chalked are also an expression of confidence in our philosophy of Social Democracy as the most effective avenue by which rapid socio-economic development can be achieved.

We have over the years striven through the implementation of egalitarian policies enhanced the welfare of the masses and these have resulted in significant improvements in the Ghanaian economy, education, agriculture and all facets of life in our nation. The NDC also owes a debt of gratitude to the millions of its members whose struggle and toil continues to sustain it. To these gallant and faithful members we say Ayekoo and encourage them to remain loyal to the cause as we work to achieve even greater development for our country. More than ever before, we urge unity and resoluteness among party faithful in the face of challenges that confront us. We must rally behind our leader H.E President John Dramani Mahama to deliver on the overwhelming mandate bestowed on him by the people of Ghana in the 2012 elections.Today we are witnessing a pivotal moment in Ghana since the inception of the 1992 Constitution and we share in the concern of all well-meaning Ghanaians for the preservation of peace and national stability. The NDC assures all Ghanaians that as always it will put Ghana first in all that it does.

Let us all on this memorable occasion rededicate ourselves to the time-tested principles of probity, accountability and social justice as these have enabled us surmount even the steepest obstacles and brought us thus far.

Long live the NDC

Long live Ghana

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General Secretary.
