A Letter To All Progressives On The Left Of Ghana’s Political Divide

Fellow progressives of the left, we of Priority(GH) are calling on you to wake up from your slumber to state your case. The division, political prostitution and the betrayal of the left by the few in the left wing movement is destroying the only alternative platform left to salvage the country from capitalist and neo liberal social democratic politicians in effect right wing politicians. Looking at recent event in western Europe and America encourages those in the left to question and challenge the current political dogma of capitalism. Most developed capitalist economies are suffering today because the few greed once have turned the lot into dogs which are feed with the crumbs of the few rich people whole control the resources of the many. The same could be said of in Ghana as these liberal system have corrupted the national psychic instilled in the people as a result of the 31 December Revolution.

Thirty years (30) of total liberalisation of the economy have rendered this endowed country poor. The deception of the west after the discovery of black gold to make our nation a lower middle income economy would soon dissipate one day when a new government takes over the ruins of government.

Priority GH are in agreement with the assertion made by Prof. Badu Akorsah that we are where we are because of the six telecommunication companies, the windfall from the international prices of gold , cocoa and oil.

Recent laments by some chiefs who have expressed mixed feeling about event in the country is worth considering by those of us in the left.

Liberal economic practices over the past three decades have seen Ghana through major economic hardship mitigation programmes namely PAMSCAD and HIPC which never worked to heal the economic imbalance.

Those of the left thought that by now most of intellectuals and those in leadership would have learnt their lessons by now and would have fashioned a Ghanaian tailored approach of creating wealth, reducing poverty, ensuring social justice and social inequality.

That is why a new platform is been created to ensure national awareness and the reawakening of the left . The Socialist Forum of Ghana is suffering from the fatigue from the over bearing of one personality who many in the left believe is inconsistent in the way he does approach many national and international issues. PriorityGH believes that the new left could be galvanised to become a potent civil society group to promote the growth, prosperity, social equity and social justices devoid of political party bias at the national levels.

The new agenda of the left should not be premised on Nkrumahism or Rawlings Reformation but something that goes deeper than these two ideals. Ghana needs a new disciplined left to lead the way to economy prosperity and is about time we come together to take our destiny into our hands.

PriorityGH believe we cannot continue to pursue these useless neo-liberal economic philosophies which have rendered many Ghanaians poor and hopeless. Let the left come together so that we can state our case in manner that Ghanaians would understand and buy for posterity sake.

The new left should not be pin down to the ideologies of Marx and Engels but Ghana should rather fashion an agenda that is peculiar to our situations. The agenda should be tailored to meet the needs of a Ghana with a diverse cultural value.

At the moment the left is so fragmented and members could be at best be described as confused people who have no true political family or home where they should belong. It is about time true leftist have a family and a true political home.

Another decade of a confused political and right wing economic governance in a less technologically organised state such as Ghana would not be helpful. Let the left unite to change the destiny of this country.

God Bless Ghana. PriorityGH, Accra
