In this second article concerning the above topic, our focal point among other issues is on the last paragraph of President Obama’s speech. It is a very critical message for the World, Africa, Ghana and the CPP. The following is the quotation:
“Ghana, freedom is your inheritance. Now, it is your responsibility to build upon freedom’s foundation. And if you do, we will look back years from now to places like Accra and say this was the time when the promise was realized; this was the moment when prosperity was forged, when pain was overcome, and a new era of progress began. This can be the time when we witness the triumph of justice once more. Yes we can. Thank you very much. God bless you”.
The above quotation is as prophetic as much as its fulfillment unfolding by the day. Ghana has been independent since 6th March, 1957. Indeed, a republic since 1st July, 1960. The great question then arises. Which ‘freedom’ is Obama saying it is our inheritance? The great answer to this great question reveals the critical equation of the Rebirth of the CPP. This inevitable rebirth is fully pregnant with the visionary ashes of Nkrumah’s light and the phoenix freedom of Obama’s confirmation.
“I am happy in the knowledge that death can never extinguish the torch which I have lit in Ghana. Long after i am dead and gone, it will continue to burn and be borne aloft giving light and guidance to the people”. These are great lines by Kwame Nkrumah. The last phase of the African movement to the great era of the Promised Land is what both Nkrumah and Obama speak of. This movement, though distinct, is characteristically akin to that of the political independence of Africa triggered in the 1950’s.
The content of the torch lit by Nkrumah is precisely crafted into the great vehicle of CPP. Like the cockerel that it is, the CPP crows at dawn of every new day. We are at the dawn of the Promised Land. The cockerel CPP must and will, inevitably crow. The wilderness of the CPP since 1966 therefore explains or represents the wilderness phase of the African movement from “Egypt” to the promise land. With the torch bearer Ghana in the wilderness, Africa at large could not have been otherwise but also in a wilderness state.
Responsibility is a pre requisite for freedom. It is this responsibility that Obama, as a torch bearer urges as to build upon freedom’s foundation. “The promised land is a promise of great era of prosperity. It is a painless state. It is progressive. It is the time where natural justice triumphs. Obama literally made this clear that if we are responsible enough to build on our inherited freedom foundation, “We will look back years from now to places like Accra and say this was the time when the PROMISE was realized. This was the moment when PROSPERITY began. This can be the time when we witness the TRUIMPH of justice ONE MORE, Yes we can” Caps mine.
The successful rebirth of CPP is not an end in itself. It is just the vehicle designed and equipped spiritually, philosophically, culturally and symbolically for the journey to the land of great promise. Great responsibility is therefore bestowed upon all comrades to win the confidence of Ghanaians. This awesome responsibility will then be transferred to the sonship of Ghana, the continental tribe of Judah – this responsibility will thunderously manifest across Africa, from Nairobi, Lagos and Kigali to Kinshasa, Harare and Addis Ababa. This same force of responsibility of African freedom will cross the Atlantic to produce not only new Luther Kings, but also, many more Obamas. It will not stop at Kingston Town, it will vibrate across the whole Caribbean.
This force of responsibility of African freedom will move down Brasilia and across the whole of South America. It will shoot northwards to continental Europe. India, China and the end of the globe, Australia and New Zealand will feel this great impact of African freedom movement, Ghana is not only the center of the earth, we will unfold into the center of the new world.
This is the meaning of the simple truth of the ‘time when the boundaries between people and overwhelmed by our connections.’ Our prosperity can and will expand America’s prosperity. Our health and security can and will contribute to the world’s health and security. And the strength of our democracy can and will advance human rights for people everywhere. Make no mistake nor underrate it. This is the magnitude of the pregnancy of the rebirth of CPP.
The CPP “woman” is not only fertile, but divinely and fully pregnant, wailing to be delivered. The serpentine maneuver of hindrance to the delivery is only but a matter of time. The serpent and its spewed waters shall not prevail. Providence will be our helper. The CPP son, the government of the promise land Ghana, will be wholesomely birthed, the youth, particularly must rise up to this challenge. History is on the move, this very moment.
The world will be what we make of it. We have the power to hold our leaders accountable and to build structures and systems that serve the people. We can do these things if we all take responsibility for our golden future. It will not be easy. It will take time and effort.
There will be suffering and setbacks. But we will prevail because unlike the previous phase of the struggle, Africa’s future is in our hands. Let us be clear in our minds. History is on our side. We hold the keys of the political sculpture of the African Dream. Pan Africanism, Self Reliance, Socialism, Green Flag and the Cockerel. This progress may lack the drama of 20th century liberation struggles but it will ultimately be more significant for just as it is important to emerge from the control of other nations, it is even more important to build one’s own nation. This moment is just as promising for Ghana and Africa as the era of our fathers when new nations were being born.
America through Obama is not the giver of this inheritance of freedom. The inheritance is in our hands. His speech is however, significant for two reasons. First, he as the most powerful officer in the world confirms a truth of the time. Secondly, no nation worth the salt negotiates power away. Power is not given on a silver platter. It is fought for. Therefore, for the most powerful nation to concede through its president, the acknowledge the global leadership of Ghana and Africa is no more an abstraction, but a fact of reality.
The World, Africa, Ghana and particularly CPP can only assume the full responsibility of this inheritance of African Freedom. Particularly the CPP because it is the catalyst vehicle to transform us into the center of this new world. It is time to lace our boots. With chisel and gavel in hand, and in the purest spirit of comradeship, let us sculpt the masterpiece of African personality, the central theme of the new world. Forward Ever!! God bless us!!
