We are of the firm belief that the President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, will deliver and respond to the needs of all Ghanaians, irrespective of their political, religious or ethnic background.
After massively voting for change, Ghanaians know that Nana Akufo-Addo will assemble a competent team to transform the economy after eight years of economic servitude from the Mahama-led administration.
Albeit the decisive trait of the president-elect, we know he would first and foremost put in place a competent team that can move the country forward. We need appointments that are done on merits.
Considering the economic challenges Ghanaians are confronted with, which resulted in the total rejection of the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress in the just ended elections, Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP have no choice but to deliver.
We have an unflinching belief in the ability and integrity of Nana Akufo-Addo whose track record over the years speaks for itself. Talk about an incorruptible, competent, passionate and humble leader, and Nana Akufo-Addo comes to mind.
Having witnessed eight years of ineptitude under President Mahama and his government, Ghanaians can be rest assured that the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo and Mahamudu Bawumia, whose economic predictions had all come to pass, is the right team to move Ghana forward.
With the NPP, having tasted power before under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, it would not be far-fetched to say the next NPP government would take over from where former President Kufuor left off.
There should be an absolute hope for the hopeless. A lot of Ghanaians have lost hope and trust in politicians, but they have decided to give the NPP another chance because of its track record and ability to solve and manage crisis.
Ghanaians need people who have been provided with a depth of experience and a breadth of perspective that will be invaluable as government officials. One of the banes that affected the Mahama-led administration was that some of his appointees were bankrupt of ideas. We are all witness to the labels which some of his appointees had during the late President Mills' tenure in office. They were described by some of their leaders as ‘’ Team B Ministers,’’ and ‘’Mediocre Ministers.’’
This shows that one could be blessed with plum jobs and opportunities to serve in government, but if they lack that wide range of relevant experience and competence, they will fail.
Vice president-elect, Dr Bawumia, unraveled a lot of mishaps and “cancer” in the economy during his economic lectures, showing clearly that the NPP knew the problems that were confronting Ghanaians, and had the appropriate remedy to it.
Ex-President Kufuor transformed the fortunes of this country from a Highly Indebted Poor Country status to a lower middle-income status. Prudent management of the economy and creation of opportunities were part of the ingredients that helped him to achieve that. We all know that Nana Akufo-Addo was very instrumental in the success chalked by the then Kufuor-led administration.
Nana Akufo-Addo made it clear that his administration should not be the avenue for seeking vengeance. During yesterday’s Thanksgiving service at the Accra Sports Stadium, he said, “I do recognize that there have been some instances of misconduct and altercations that should not have happened. Such behaviour is unbecoming of us. I call on all Ghanaians - everyone - to act with kindness, generosity and magnanimity towards one another, and to forgive anyone who may have wronged or hurt you.”
His prospective appointees must have a forgiving spirit and focus on systems and mechanisms that will improve the livelihood of the people.
As he indicated yesterday, his journey to the presidency took about four decades; therefore, we believe hee will not allow anyone to destroy it overnight.
Everyone must approach their work with positive mental attitude aimed at solving the economic hardship and respecting the tenets of good governance.
