Akufo Addo’s Bad Show At Ayawaso East

Commentary

Desperation in politics and people’s wrong notion of having divine right to lead the good people of Ghana can make otherwise noblemen do things that are not in their own interest.
The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Williams Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has all along been claiming that he is part and parcel of our brothers in various Muslim communities.
Nobody could fault Akufo Addo, because he is so desperate to become a President and for that matter would do everything possible to become the President.
But does Akufo Addo have single regard for the very people he claims he has been part and parcel of?
The answer is obviously no; the man had the simple courtesy to address a rally at ‘Mantse Agbonaa’, in perfect Ga language to the delight of the gathering.
After that rally, Akufo Addo continues with his ‘Restoring Hope Campaign’ and strayed in to the backyard of the people he claims to love so much.
Mr. William Akufo-Addo, with his flair in the Hausa language did the most dishonorable thing in his political history, as he addressed the good people of Ayawaso East Constituency in the Twi dialect to the surprise of the electorate.
After telling the people through his language use that, he is indeed, not part of them, his message was more damaging than never before.
According to him, since 1992, the people of East Ayawaso have never voted for the Elephant party, and should, therefore, look at him and change the voting pattern this time round.
Poor Akufo Addo, it appears does not learn lessons in his campaign, and the people around him are just not doing him any good, than tickle themselves and giggle.
This same position he espoused in the Volta Region by claiming that the people of that region are one-way-people should have informed him, not to insult the intelligence of the electorate thereafter.
After all, Akufo-Addo is not and can never be the one to dictate the voting pattern to the Ghanaian electorate in any way.
The people around him should be bold enough to tell him to just continue with his overambitious plans for the country, and stop forcing himself on the electorate.
He is so confused with himself that he even forgets that he was with the people he claims to be part of but went ahead to denigrate, in the name of winning elections.
It is not too late for Akufo Akufo-Addo to learn to do the right thing; but that could be achieved if he comes to terms with the fact that, becoming President of Ghana is not, and can never be his divine right.
With that he could do things right at the right time; other than that, he would continue to be insulting the intelligence of the electorate, and would be shown the deep red-card again in December, like they did in 2008.
