An open letter to NDC national chairman for immediate consideration and action for party and country

National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah

Dear Chairman,

I extend warm greetings to you from the grassroots in the countryside, specifically the Northeast region. It is our sincerest hope and prayers that this letter finds you in optimal health and high spirits.

The grassroots are concerned about the apparent prioritization of constituency executives as the sole party faithfuls deemed suitable for appointment as MMDCEs across the country. This widespread speculation has been substantiated by the shortlisted names submitted by the regional secretariats across the country to the headquarters for consideration.

Although some secretariats failed to publish the names, social media disclosures confirm that the submitted names are predominantly constituency executives. If this notion is validated and allowed to materialize, the future elections of the NDC would be entirely entrusted to those executives deemed more important and qualified to occupy the said portfolios.

As a grassroots advocate, I wish to state that the decision to exclude grassroots party faithfuls who possess the requisite skills but are not constituency executives from the MMDCE contest raises significant political concerns that warrant consideration. I further wish to unequivocally state that this notion has the potential to yield severe political repercussions if the proposed idea is permitted to unfold.

Undoubtedly, you would have been an exemplary candidate for any appointment within the administration of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. However, driven by your devotion to the party and country, you have chosen to remain a party executive, ensuring the cohesion of our party at the top instead of pursuing appointments. This raises the question: why cannot the same be expected from constituency executives? Does their failure to secure appointments as MMDCEs at the grassroots imply their exclusion from the decision-making process?

If the party leadership intends to prioritize appointments for grassroots members, does this imply that constituency executives are the sole grassroots party faithfuls? The answer is unequivocally negative. Many exceptional grassroots crusaders within our party are not merely executives but individuals who tirelessly support the party by providing resources and promoting its activities to foot soldiers and the general public.

We risk rendering the contest for grassroots positions highly problematic and unhealthy if this notion of prioritizing executives is not revisited. Must one hold an executive position to project party activities or provide resources?

In conclusion, I humbly appeal to the NDC leadership to urgently reconsider its decision to prioritize constituency executives for appointments over other dedicated party members who may have demonstrated exceptional performance in their respective constituencies.

May God guide you to find wisdom in this piece!

Shalom!

Thank you!
