Are Some NPP Members Thieves?

Ask Ekua Kwansema

Finally, somebody in the NPP who has guts and a spine on his back has found his voice to spew to the world the untold secret about how many NPP folks took advantage of the naivety of many Ghanaians and ‘raped’ the country. I could not believe that an NPP member can have the courage to inform the world that some of his colleagues are indeed thieves.

But this is the message that came from no ordinary person but Mr. Atta Akyea, NPP Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South. This man, who has the penchant of going against his party's establishment and calling a spade a spade, stated that some members of the NPP stole monies that were handed over to them for political activities during the 2008 electioneering campaign. And this he said led to the shameful defeat of Nana Akufo-Addo at the polls.

Immediately I read the story my mind raced back 10 years and I zoomed in on Kwaku Sakyi-Addo who back then told the whole world that NPP people are honorable and self-made men and women who would have nothing to do with Ghana ’s money. Sakyi-Addo went on to say that the NPP people do not need Ghana ’s money since they have made more than enough on their own. I wish this guy who was tutored by the PNDC and sent to Cuba for training would have the guts and say the same thing today to redeem his damned reputation.

Finally the chicken has come home to roost. Believe me some people in the NPP who have seen the deeply corrupt activities within the NPP would come out and spew more venom. They would rather help in making the case for the NDC that the NPP people who virtually ‘chopped’ with their hands, mouths and even feet are much more dishonorable and left the country seriously broke.

Mr.. Akyea who did not name names intimated that huge sums of money were invested into Akufo-Addo’s campaign but the monies evaporated into thin air. I guess that air must have been huge to swallow that kind of money which Mr. Akyea was talking about. And trust me, since this man has just opened the lid with this bombshell, we should expect more from him by way of naming names.  One thing that beats my mind is where did the NPP get all the huge sums of monies that they splashed around during the electioneering campaigns? Six months after his humiliating defeat, Akufo-Addo’s giant billboards continue to litter Accra and other major cities and towns in Ghana while his alleged imported elephant that he would have used in parading the streets of Accra had he won the presidential election is still being fed somewhere in Accra.

Many Ghanaians still believe that the NPP took Ghana on a roller-coaster ride during its 8 years in power by using deceit, bogus talking points and dubious pressmen like Kweku Baako, Gaby Otchere Darko, Ato Sam (Baby Ansaba), Gifty Afenyi-Dadzie, Kwaku Sakyi-Addo and others to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians while they grabbed everything that came their way at the mercy of poor Ghanaians.

It is any wonder why many of these dishonorable NPP members have began to shiver even though nobody has yet accused them of any wrongdoing. Asamoah Boateng, former Information Minister found a new job with Peace FM as a serial contributor. Asamoah Boateng would go on air daily and spew venom on the NDC government. His luck ran out last week when it emerged that he awarded a dubious contract to his sister-in-law which runs into more than 800 million cedis.

Later in the week, Mr. Frank Agyekum his deputy at the time made some startling revelations that tended to put the spotlight on Asamoah Boateng. But instead of Asamoah Boateng using the same Peace FM to either deny or confirm the allegations, he simply kept mute and continued to lambast the Mills government on other issues. Unbeknown even to the officials of Peace FM, Asamoah Boateng who saw the ring circling around him after the revelations by Frank Agyekum packed bag and baggage and would have sneaked out of the country with his family on Sunday had he not been spotted by the country’s security apparatus and prevented from traveling.  It is not strange that “Asabee” would attempt to sneak out of the country three days after Frank Agyekum had testified at the BNI and put the spotlight on “Asabee”. News even filtering in indicates that “Asabee’s” sister-in-law is not aware about that renovation contract. Asem beba dabi. In fact Ghanaians are yet to know the extent to which some of these NPP thieves took the whole country for a ride.

Ghanaat this point in time needs people who can sacrifice just a little bit to make the country better. Did anybody miss the per diem news about President Mills? This humble man informed Ghanaians last week that he was not interested in taking per diem when he travels. Is anybody listening? Did ex-president Kufour hear that story? Did the self-made NPP politicians hear that? And what about the NPP political hacks who parade as journalists and self-appointed social commentators?

Atta Akyea should totally open the lid and let Ghanaians know who those NPP thieves are. That would help Ghanaians to know the devils within our midst so that we would flee away from them. Just saying there are thieves within NPP does not cut it. Let us know who they are, Mr. Akyea. Many people would applaud you if you go that far.
