As the election season unfolds, Ayawaso Central Constituency finds itself at a pivotal crossroads. Henry Quartey, incumbent Member of Parliament under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) banner and current Minister for Interior, is gearing up for re-election amidst mounting challenges and criticisms.

Abdul-Rauf Tubazu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, emerges as a formidable contender, hailed for his youthful, sharp acumen, and profound grasp of local issues. Advocates for Tubazu argue that his fresh perspective and deep connection with constituents make him the ideal choice for representing Ayawaso Central's interests in Parliament.

Critics of Quartey point to allegations of leveraging his ministerial position and financial resources to sway voter sentiment. They highlight concerns over his handling of longstanding community issues, such as persistent flooding in areas like Alajo over the past 24 years under NPP rule. Additionally, despite Quartey's regional efforts to promote Accra as Africa's cleanest city during his tenure as Regional Minister, constituents continue to grapple with inadequate infrastructure, including poor lighting, deteriorating roads, clogged drains, and substandard sanitation conditions.

Recent local assembly elections have seen nine pro-NDC assembly candidates securing victory compared to the NPP's four, signalling a potential shift in voter preferences towards the opposition party. Opinion polls further underscore this trend, suggesting a favorable outlook for Tubazu with projections indicating 50% in his favor compared to Quartey's 45%.

The sitting MP Henry Quartey is considered to have more resources and the advantage of incumbency, which puts him in a strong position. But it is the strong youth appeal, local goodwill for Tubazu and the growing youth fatigue, concerns of under performance, and poor representation against Hon Quartey that puts Tubazu in a stronger position to win the seat. As election day approaches, residents of Ayawaso Central are urged to reflect on these critical issues and consider their choices. The outcome of this election holds the promise of shaping the future trajectory of the constituency, making it imperative for voters to make an informed decision that aligns with their aspirations and the needs of their community.
