Sometime in March 2011 in the early hours of that black Wednesday, a 25-year-old female named Amina was humiliated by male students of the University of Ghana for allegedly stealing a laptop computer and unspecified number of mobile phones belonging to students of the Mensah Sarbah Hall.
Some male students of the hall abused her by stripping her naked and shredding her pants, inserting their fingers into her private parts while others recorded the incident despite her plea for forgiveness.
On July 16, 2011, the disciplinary committee of the University after investigations recommended stern punishment to seven out of the thirteen students who were discharged by an Accra circuit court for same charges.
In a press release signed by the Assistant Registrar, F.K. Yeboah, the committee indicated that a number of students played various roles in the sexual assault and molestation of the said Ms. Amina Haruna and included:
Mr. Francis Attah Wiredu (ID: 10286005), Mr. Mark Dickson Kwame Tornu (ID10269875), Mr. Morris Awaregya (ID 10269875), Mr. Jason Boarna Ampomah (ID 10339794), Mr. Benedict Neequaye Broohm (ID 10344635) and Mr. Elijah Tambeog (ID 10351647) who were suspended for four semesters taking effect from the 2011-2012 academic year. However Mr. Maxwell Kwadwo Frempong was dismissed from the University.
After three years, the question is where are the six students who were suspended for four semesters, have they returned to the lecture halls or found something else to do with their lives?
How is Maxwell, the sacked student faring?
Where is Amina, the chief character at the center of the saga? Did she get any medical or health complications from the molestation she went through and has she found herself a partner and stable job? Readers can always share with us what they know of the named persons.
