Flashback: Petition to God (January 22, 2017)

After pleasingly conceding defeat and facilitating a smooth transition after the 2016 elections by the NDC, it was expected that Ghana would be peaceful, but that has not been the case. There have been existential acts of unprovoked violence and illegal takeovers of toll booths, public toilets, and public offices by the NPP militant youth wing, the Invincible Forces.

Chaos is the last thing Ghana needs; therefore, such dastardly and macabre acts must be condemned by all and sundry before this beautiful country of ours is plunged into a vortex of lawlessness.

This petition is against the action of the NPP goons who besieged the Passport Office and the Tema Harbour to take over operations on January 9, 2017.

This appeal is for ASP Nanka Bruce, Police Commander at the Flagstaff House, who was beaten up by militants of the NPP at the Flagstaff House on January 9, 2017.

This cry is for the NDC constituency executive member of the Sefwi-Wiawso constituency who was killed on December 10, 2016, by jubilant NPP supporters.

This invocation is for an NDC supporter, Ayuba Akakpo, who was killed at Dunkwa-on-Offin by euphoric NPP supporters.

This plea is against the destruction and seizure of state properties at Fanteakwa and Nkwanta South District Assemblies by NPP thugs on January 13, 2017.

This request is against the irresponsible and lawless acts of dismissals and attacks on School Feeding Programme coordinators and caterers at Offinso South and North Dayi districts by NPP constituency executives. Dismissal letters were written on the letterheads of the NPP and signed by constituency executives.

This call is against the unlawful locking up of offices of the National Health Insurance at Bodi, Tamale, Wa, and Nkwanta by supporters of the NPP.

This imploration is against the criminal act of locking up the offices of the Youth Employment Agency District offices at Kwahu West, Nkwanta, Gonja West, Tamale Metro, Offinso South, Birim Central, and Savelugu by rampaging NPP supporters.

This entreaty is against the action of the 30 marauding NPP supporters who forcibly took over the Rotary Park in Kumasi.

This solicitation is against the seizure and burning down of the Fiapre-Sunyani road toll booth by NPP gangs on December 9, 2016.

This submission is again against the seizure of toll booths at the Atimpoku-Akosombo, Adenta-Dodowa, and Ashaiman toll booths by NPP-irate supporters.

This supplication is against the killing of 3 NDC supporters and the maiming of many others at Ejura in the Ashanti Region by rampaging NPP supporters.

This adjuration is against the illegal takeover of the Asamankese NADMO office by NPP supporters.

This plea is against the illegal seizure of all public toilet facilities in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis by some NPP youth.

And this petition is for celebrities who supported the NDC during the electioneering campaign and were attacked and assaulted by NPP activists after the declaration of the 2016 election results.

Unfortunately, the behaviour of the leadership of the NPP in connection with this matter reeks of connivance and abetment.

Mr. Freddie Blay, the acting chairman of the ruling NPP, is on record to have avowedly stated that the perpetrators of these unfortunate acts are doing so to protect state properties!

Interestingly, it is taking forever for President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to speak to this issue. His blissful silence is worrying, especially when the leadership of the National Democratic Congress has consistently called on him to call his supporters to order.

This development is so disturbing, so scary, and so dangerous to our nascent democracy. It is therefore essential that the voices of religious bodies, civil society, and the international community be heard on this matter.

The NDC would not be an easy convert to any unreasonable level of endurance if this did not stop, so God please intervene.
