Dear Sir,
I read the article of Marks et al on malaria research in Ghana, a criticism from Gossling et al, and their response article with keen interest, and I've been fascinated by the arguments raised by Gossling et al.
Unfortunately, Marks et all from Bernhard Nocht in hamburg and the KCCR in Kumasi were not able to justifiably defend or counter argue against the points raised by Roly Gossling, rather it was filled with words that protrayed arrogance which is not in the best interest of fighting malaria in developing countries, especially Ghana where I come from, and have been observing them.
I have been expecting to see another write up from Gossling et al for some time now, but none has appeared yet. I wish they do, because these German people constitute the group of people who blatantly seek funds in the name of malaria research at the expense of poor Africans, with these monies ending up as personal gains.
Sure, their data collection was suspect, and this may be due to improper adminstrative tools, discontent among the people they're working with in Ghana. But eventually they manage to present confusing data, articulated in German English that do not help in any way in the fight against malaria. At times I ask myself if it really is worth it for institutions like that to be awarded such huge sums in the name of malaria research as an aid to Africa. Oh poor Africans...
If people like Roly Gossling would critically analyse their shoddy works regularly, then they'll be up to the task of finding solutions to Africa's problems, instead of cheating Ghana. Articles from Bernhad Nocht are often recycled, believe you in me. They're not contributing in any way to the development of science in Ghana or to the welfare of the people. They're only out there to gain and nothing else.
I'll be waiting for a response.
