Ghana‘s democracy is breeding ignorant ...

...., abusive, disrespectful and lazy young men

Multi party democracy has been touted and accepted globally as the best form of governance. Those who champion and uphold it believe it removes all forms of human abuses ,allow freedom of expression ,ensure grass root participation and ensures social-economic growth of global citizens amongst others. National Youth leadership forum Ghana however think the situation in Ghana today is in the opposite direction from all indications, the country’s democracy is breeding many young men whose moral compass do not point in the right direction .

NYLF –GH, premise this thought on the way and manner many young men and women particularly in the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party have hijacked civil, decent ,decorous ,courteous and constructive socio-political discourse in the country. Their stock in trade has been subjecting elderly as well as young people who disagree with their way of thinking to public ridicule .In the recent past Ghanaians witnessed how statesmen like Jerry John Rawlings (Former President) and his wife Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings were publicly abused and subjected to humiliation by people who do not measure up to their stature by any form. Their crime was disagreeing with a particular system.

This transcended to astute men of God like Dr.Mensah Otabil (founder of ICGC) and Arch Bishop Palmer Buckle (Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra).

Within the past two months, revered people in the New Patrotic Party including Mr Kwame Pianim, Dr.Nyaho Tamakloe and Dr Charles Wereko Brobbey have also tested the wrath of some of this breeds of Ghana’s so called democracy for expressing their views . This abusive ,disrespectful and lazy young men in the NPP in particular have failed to see logic in constructive criticism and opinions instead of taking advantage of the freedom of expression offered to us all by the democracy we practicing and do constructive critique of issues, they go bonkers and denigrate ,humiliate and suppress elderly persons by insults. It is on record that one Anthony Karbo has described Dr Charles Wereko Brobbey as a reckless old man and has even threatened to mobilize thugs to physically assault him should the brilliant gentleman go close to the NPP head quarters . In a press statement issued on Friday 31 may 2013 ,a group calling itself Young Patriots which includes Richard Nyamah,Fred Amankwah Sarfo ,John Kumah and Hopeson Adorye have describe Dr. Brobbey as a traitor, a person with no moral conscious and have also threatened physical assault t on the elderly fine gentleman . There are thousands of social media postings and radio phone ins of such nature.

We of the National Youth Leadership Forum – Ghana do not have any locus in touching on the internal political issues.

However, we are concerned by the degeneration of Ghana’s socio-political discourse, the abuse and disrespect in our political system.

The conduct of the young men mentioned and many others clearly depicts that they do not uphold the freedom of expression enshrined in the 1992 constitution of Ghana. National Youth Leadership Forum – Ghana hence charge the leadership of the various political parties to institute disciplinary measures against people who run verbal diarrhea and fail to react to issues constructively.

We further charge our religious and traditional authorities not to be afraid of the irresponsible attitudes of these young men but stand up to protect our moral values.

An appeal is made to decent elderly and young people not to grow less relationship with politics and leave it to indecent, discourteous, abusive and irresponsible people. But to be bold and courageous to freely express their views on issues that would ensure the forward match of Ghana.
