Columnist: Democratic Voice

Ghana’s democratic route cannot be sacrificed for political expediency

Our greatest fear is not the fact that we are inadequate, our greatest fear is the fact that we are capable beyond measure.

The DEMOCRATIC VOICE is a pressure group including consummate party activists from all the political divide with the mission of protecting the multi-party democratic governance gained through collective efforts and sacrifices.

As key stakeholders in the democratic dispensation of our great nation Ghana, we wish to bring to the fore certain critical issues which are of national importance.

Dangerous level of partisanship & hypocrisy in the country:

We want to say enough is enough with the way we play politics with every sensitive issue in this country. The level of partisanship in this country if not checked, could tear this nation apart. The Democratic Voice wants to put it on record that some of our leaders are not helping matters when it comes to nation building. There is disconnect and mistrust among most Ghanaians because of the dangerous level of partisanship in this country.

The presidential candidates are full of deceits and unnecessary promises such as one district one factory, one million to each constituency are all intends to win power.

Chiefs who are not supposed to be engaged in active partisan politics are now expressing their views on dangerously partisan lines. Our religious leaders who are supposed to inspire hope and contribute their expertise to the development of mother Ghana, are rather doing the bidding of their “pay masters”.

Churches which hitherto were platforms for preaching the gospel are now been turned into political playgrounds for false prophesy and where renowned men of God spew lies and political venom against their supposedly political opponents in the full glare of “voiceless” congregants.

The question therefore is how do you expect the church (which is the living community of God) to grow when you insult and lied against certain group of people you preside over?

This is what we call “leadership of deceit” and must be condemn by all well- meaning Ghanaians for that is the only way we can expose and shame the enemies of progress in this beautiful country of ours.

Negative groups who pursue agendas for their pay masters like the Occupy Ghana, Let My Vote Count etc are supposed to help shape Ghana’s democracy but are all hypocrites and self-seeking without putting Ghana first.

It is absolutely clear that Mr. Alfred Woyome’s issue of fresh contract that was raised earlier was a political gimmick to deceive Ghanaians.

Not far too long, Bishop Owusu Bempah, a seasoned man of God in Ghana who is supposed to preach the good news and win souls for Christ was seen publicly dancing to the tune of his pay masters.

The Democratic Voice want to put it on public record that this is dangerous to the highest order and an irresponsible of a man of his caliber. The fact is Ghanaians do not need any soothsayer or prophet to predict who wins or loses election and people who find comfort in doing that are nation wreckers and must be condemn by all well-meaning Ghanaians.

Issues surrounding the 2016 elections

Some unpleasant happenings surrounding the 2016 elections that was largely described as “the mother of all elections” by Sammy Awuku, the NPP’s National Youth Organizer on a TV3 newspaper review programme, New Day, is very worrying.

What beats our imagination as well as many Ghanaians is why the 2016 election should be called “the mother of all elections” as pontificated by Sammy Awuku? Have we not held elections in this country before?

The answer is YES because we had six elections under the fourth Republican Constitution which saw incumbent governments losing power to their opponents peacefully without any confusion which could lead to violence.

Come to think of it, a senior youth leader calling a normal election in Ghana as “the mother of all elections”? Our question is; to what interest is the 2016 election to Sammy Awuku to have made those lose comments on a national television? Is it for Nana Addo to become President at all cost for him to be appointed a Minister, Deputy, CEO, Board Chairman of State Institution or what?

In Ghana today, a minister’s brother can be embolden by political power to tell Ghanaians how they kill people on daily basis in Asutifi without being punished and no one cares to arrest this murderer for questioning and possible prosecution? Because of political power, a regional chairman of an opposition party is inciting his party supporters to beat and kill fellow countrymen and women and no one cares to invite him for questioning. Because of political power, contesting parliamentary candidates in various constituencies including Odododiodoo in Greater Accra can fight among themselves and even order innocent constituents to be shot and no one cares. Is this a country worth leaving?

Where is the Peace Council, WANEP, CODEO, GJA, IGP, Interior Minister, Clergy, and Islamic Clerics? IMANI and Ghana Integrity Initiative, are you only interested in economic indicators? Are you waiting for the country to start burning before you act? We beg to defer!

It is crystal clear that some political parties and civil society groups are not serving the genuine interest of the Ghanaian people and this is criminal and pathetic to say the least.

But in all honesty, we want to assure the entire nation that Nkrumah’s Ghana cannot be burnt by greedy individuals in the name of power under the able leadership of President Mahama.

Mr. President has consistently assured Ghanaians that the state security apparatus are well resourced to fight any rebellion group(s). In fact, the state is more powerful than any individual or group and whoever seeks to disturb the peace we are currently enjoying would be defeated!

Peace now or never!

We wish by this Press Statement to remind all Ghanaians that the peace we are currently enjoying should not be taken for granted. Whoever loses the forth coming election must call and congratulate the winner no matter how painful it might be. We are living witnesses to the recently held American Elections. Hilary Clinton who was touted to be the winner of the election in that country eventually lost to her main challenger Donald Trump, a business magnate.

Despite the pain and disappointment, she called and congratulated the president-elect. This is politics of civility and maturity. If you lose, you lose….Just call and congratulate the winner.

It does not matter: what foundation you have laid in your party or government, how many times you are contesting the presidency, how many jobs you created, how young or old you are. What matters is concede defeat and support the winner to run our God given country effectively.

The Democratic Voice wishes to inform all political parties and their leaderships that Ghanaians are not ready to sacrifice the peace bestowed to them by their forefathers. We want to put it on record that any attempt by any person or group of persons to run down this country will be aggressively resisted by Ghanaians because Ghana is the only country we have. The fact of the matter is that we cannot sacrifice our democracy and peace for you to become president.

Thank you.

God bless us all

God bless The Democracy voice

God bless Ghana
