Even before Nana Addo was elected to represent the NPP in election 2016, he indicated on various platforms that when given the opportunity by the good people of Ghana, he will once again go with Dr Mahamud Bawumia.
He spoke of the brilliance of Dr Bawumia and of how humble, modest and honest he has been in both his dealings with him and also his conduct as an astute Economist in Ghana and beyond.
It must be stated that some of us were very much inspired and motivated by the open declaration of Nana Addo that he will go with Dr Bawumia again when given the chance by the indefatigable NPP delegates.
What the other contestants didn’t immediately understand was that Nana Addo was not in the race all alone. He was in the internal elections with Dr. Bawumia even though it was his portrait which was on the ballot. A vote for Nana Addo also meant a vote for the astute economist.
No wonder Nana Addo won massively in the internal contest; an indication that the NPP was convincingly united behind Nana and Bawumia. It is refreshing and encouraging that Nana Addo has once again gone in for Dr Bawumia for election 2016.
I have been waiting for this announcement and it was excellent it came at this time. There is every opportunity for the NPP to come to government to salvage the people of Ghana in lieu of the terrible administration of John Dramani Mahama.
Aside deep thievery and fraud at various governmental agencies, there is nothing positive to talk about this regime. The other day some of my friends told me these were bad times to live in Ghana.
The unemployment level is alarming. It is at a record high and students even now fear to complete their studies. Their reason is that it is better to be a student than to join the unemployed hopeless graduates association after a mere National Service.
The government and some of its associates are blaming every bad thing that happens in the country to either, the opposition, dwarfs or God. With these 10th Century attributions to the dwindling fortunes of the economy by NDC surrogates, how can things get better for all of us?
Much as there is every chance for the NPP to form the next government in 2017, it must prove to Ghanaians that it is ready for power by not only proffering alternative views to the current bad governance of John Dramani Mahama but by also staying united as a party.
There shouldn’t be any complacency at all. All hands must be brought on deck. Even those NPP persons who before the primaries on October 18, thought Nana Addo was not the best to lead the NPP must be brought on board.
As members of the same party, records of bitterness must be buried. No one should remind the other about what he or she said in the past. That is not what will give the party victory in 2016.
The so called “human shield” around Nana Addo (if real) that prevents perceived “against” members of the party from approaching him MUST be torn to shreds.
Nana Addo is now the Presidential Candidate of the NPP for election 2016, not a candidate for NPP primaries which took place on October 18th again.
It is encouraging and laudable that Nana Addo has already visited the Headquarters of the NPP to assure them of his willingness to work with every one for the collective victory of all.
Alan Kyeremanten and Addai Nimo should also be commended for first attending the declaration of the results of the primaries and subsequently visiting Nana Addo at his Nima residence to congratulate him once again.
All the promises of working together for victory in 2016 echoed by all so far must be genuine and sincere. We need victory by all means but we have to unite by all means to achieve that victory for the NPP and Ghana. “We are better together”, we should be reminded.
