I am not sorry for Baah-Acheamfuor

He has been described by one radio station as “a widely known Akufo-Addo critic,” but the fact of the matter is that Mr. Baah-Acheamfuor could be more aptly described as an Akufo-Addo detractor (See “Confirmed: Kwesi Kyei Masterminded Fox Fm Attack” Kapital971.com 5/2/16). Until their condign suspension from the New Patriotic Party’s headquarters, Mr. Baah-Acheamfuor, I suppose he sports the first name of “Daniel,” walked in lock-step with Messrs. Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe. He was the shill that these virulent Akufo-Addo detractors mischievously and cynically used to character assassinate the three-time Presidential Candidate of the country’s largest opposition party. Indeed, it was only a matter of time before he reaped his own comeuppance.

Well, if it is true, as widely alleged by the Asante Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Yussif, that the order to physically assault Mr. Baah-Acheamfuor at Fox-Fm, Kumasi, was issued by Mr. Kwesi Kyei, who serves as the NPP’s Asante Regional Communications Director, then this unfortunate incident is one that is of great symbolic significance. It unmistakably points to the virtual dismantling of the region’s NPP communications apparatus by the target of the alleged assault. Indeed, it is very tempting for any objectively minded observer to label Mr. Baah-Acheamfuor as the victim of a vicious and criminal assault. But that would be a great mistake; he is no victim at all.

Nevertheless, the best and most appropriate response to his running character-assassination propaganda and vendetta against Akufo-Addo would be to checkmate the young man with equally verbally poignant counterpunches with adequate reach to his cross-partisan sponsors and paymasters. Physically assaulting this street urchin who once formed an organization called “Save NPP Now,” to brazenly stage a coup detat for the summary removal of Akufo-Addo, so as to coronate his tribesman and favorite presidential candidate, only enhances Mr. Acheamfuor’s credibility among the political opponents of his perennial target of abuse.

It would also enable the notorious Akufo-Addo detractor to attract the sort and level of sympathy that he clearly does not deserve. One thing, however, is crystal clear – and it is the fact that whatever group of internal detractors of the New Patriotic Party may be sponsoring Mr. Baah-Acheamfuor is in cahoots with some key National Democratic Congress’ operatives. For it is not purely accidental that the most vocal voices that have gone public to unreservedly condemn the assault are those of the Asiedu-Nketia Posse. There is obviously acute desperation on the side of the NPP’s internal Akufo-Addo detractors and their NDC economic underwriters; but this ought not to fuel the anger and frustration of those who have more to lose in the process.

For such is undoubtedly the game plan – namely, to provoke that side of the ideological divide with the most powerful groundswell of goodwill to act irresponsibly, and then take snap-shots of such intemperate acts of hooliganism to show the world as another good reason to keep the grossly incompetent and pathologically thievish government of the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress at the Flagstaff House for four more years.
