Information is the answer

I will be very, very happy if you can kindly publish this article in
your respected news paper with the above title to draw the attention
of NADMO.
I red with keen interest in ghanaweb news edition of Friday 11th of
February 2011 about NADMO saying they are ready for this year rains.
Very interesting and encouraging.Distiling gutters and clearing
unwanted things things so that water do not chock up to provoke
disaster is good. But there is one thing that they are missing which
is very important. Information/communication. That is the answer .This
values million times than blankets, foodstuffs, potable water etc.
that they give when this natural disaster occurs. Can’t they learn
from the past and other countries that save millions of lives and
property without incurring more state funds. Last year was a year that
I could not believed. In the northern part of our country floods swept
properties and some life’s were lost. Were n´t they ready¬¬ by then? I
mean we have an institution that has it branches all over the country
and that institution can not prevent but rather evaluat.NADMO knows
the most natural disaster in our country is flooding which has to do
with heavy rains and common knowledge will tell us that, prevention is
better than cure. All that NADMO need to do is to inform the areas
that will be affected to evacuate and explain to them why they need to
do so. They should move all things that they think are valuable to
them and if there are some who can not do so NADMO itself can move in
and provide the necessary logistics so that we do not wail or incurred
more state funds that could have been use for other areas to improve
our standard of living. Every year NGO´S and NADMO itself comes in to
help people or calm some to overcome memories. What NADMO need to do
is to collaborate with the metrological department so that in hands
they can save life’s and property. This department can tell them where
and when heavy rains will occure.I want to use an example here where I
am studying my degree course thus, Cuba. The only weapon Cuba uses
against natural disaster is information. And they do that in
collaboration with the metrological department. Here we have cyclones,
earthquakes, strong winds but I tell you and you can even crosscheck
life and properties are not lost as it happens in our country and
other parts of the world. All that they do is to inform areas that
will be affected to evacuate and if possible evacuate them and their
properties and by doing these nothing is lost.NADMO can do the same
job as been done here by the Cubans. We have more resources to prevent
than them and all that I am appealing is that, they should use this
simple tool than resorting to rethorics.A word to the wise is enough.
God bless our republic.
Thank you
