Until I got closer to her, I took the adage: "Ok?t? nwo anoma", for granted. But, whilst many could be deceived by the name, Ponu-Brenyah because of marriage, those who have associated themselves with her would bear witnesses to the fact that, she is the exact copy of her late grand dad. This stems from her devotion to duty, temperament, humilty, commitment, selflessness, hard work and great sense of humour.
Her generosity to mankind is beyond bounds and even in pains, she works like a 'robot' for the sake of her Party, mankind and Country. No wonder many call her the 'Yaa Asantewaa' of our time. She is a an active member of NPP-UK and has been involved in several fund raising activities of the Nasara-NPP-UK and the Branch itself.
The woman being described here is Mrs. Irene Ponu-Brenyah, the first grandchild of the late Chief SD Dombo, the man who sacrificed his presidential ambition in 1969 for the sake of our great UP Tradition.
Irene has been very instrumental in politics, an arena where many Ghanaian women hesitate to enter. She is the brainchild of Patriotic Ambassadors for Peace (PAP), a Volunteer Group that is seriously embarking on door-to-door campaign for Nana Addo and some adopted NPP Parliamentary Candidates.
Through Irene, PAP within ten (10) months of its formation (November 7, 2015) has embarked on series of outreach programmes in Ahafo-Ano North, Ho-West Constituency, Ningo-Prampram, Wa Central, Ingleshie-Amanfrom-Botianor, Kpone-Katamanso and Yapei-Kasawgu.
Again, Irene's untiring effort has engineered PAP to propagate NPP's message of hope and change through press releases and on the mass media - TV, radio, Internet, newspapers etc. Similarly, a number of donations such as posters, t-shirts and bicycles have been made to some NPP PCs and executives to aid the campaign.
Aside the above, PAP, through Irene's efforts has received 16 boxes of items from London ranging from food, clothing, computers, reading books, footballs, oil etc. These items will soon be distributed freely to potential voters in PAP's six adopted constituencies. Similarly, Irene provided 106 boxes of similar campaign items to NPP PC for Bole Bamboi, Veronica Heming and got its shipment cost of £4000 to Ghana free of charge.
What is so unique and surprising about this woman is that, she neither boasts nor brags about what she does for mankind on personal terms or for the NPP. She is a great woman by all standards and no wonder, she is referred to as the "Mother Theresa" of PAP.
Irene celebrates turns 47 today (03/10/16). PAP members in general and I in particular, are indebted to her: we pray for good health and more blessings to her and the family as she celebrates her birthday today. Ghana, NPP and PAP are blessed to have such a personality in our midst.
