Shockingly, the social media commentator, Kevin Taylor, has been alleging that in 2017, the Akufo-Addo’s government ordered about 50 buses from Zyle Daewoo Commercial Vehicle of South Korea and paid $175,000 for each of the buses instead of the actual price of $75,000.
However, it later turned out that the boisterous social media critic, Kevin Taylor, mischievously lifted the price of $75,000 of a similar bus, albeit of a lower standard from a website with no affiliation to the bus manufacturer, Zyle Daewoo Commercial Vehicle of South Korea. How disgusting?
Unsurprisingly, therefore, the bus manufacturer, Zyle Daewoo Commercial Vehicle of South Korea, has since released a statement to confute the clamorous social media commentator, Kevin Taylor’s wild allegations that the prices of the 50 buses sold to the Akufo-Addo’s government in 2017 were inflated.
In retrospect, the buses were procured by the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Transport for the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Limited in 2017.
Apparently, part of the Zyle Daewoo Commercial Vehicle of South Korea’s statement reads: “there is no specification fixed. The $75,000 is an idea price with no adding option. There is no mention about warranty conditions, training, parts and dealer margin for additional cost to be included.”
The bus manufacturer, Zyle Daewoo Commercial Vehicle of South Korea, therefore, has denied with no uncertain terms that the broadcasting by the vociferous social media commentator, Kevin Taylor, did not reflect the true facts.
“We at Zyle Daewoo HQ state categorically that we sold the models GL6127HK and GDW6121Hk to our Distributor GH Daewoo motors in Ghana at $175,000 per unit.
“We strongly issue a disclaimer and repudiate the claim by Kevin Taylor that the models should have been sold at $75,000.”
I am not seeking to engage in any petty political equalisation, far from it. But for the sake of balanced annotation, it is important to state the fact as it is.
Apparently, credible sources have it that in 2015, the erstwhile Mahama administration procured similar buses, though of a lower specification, and paid not less than $185,000 per bus.
So, if the social media critic, Kevin Taylor, had cross checked his fact diligently, he would not have gleefully run to town with bogus information.
Let us be honest, if the social media commentator, Kevin Taylor, is not on a mission to malign and tarnish the image of his perceived opponents, what else would motivate the apparent malicious accusations?
Obviously, the social media critic, Kevin Taylor, is gradually gaining a notoriety of a bogus anti-corruption crusader.
Unquestionably, the social media commentator, Kevin Taylor, has a penchant for accusing innocent people without a shred of incontrovertible evidence.
To be quite honest, I am really struggling to comprehend how and why any reasonable person would choose to belie the facts and invariably bringing the name of a reputable company like Daewoo into disrepute.
In fact, if Kevin Taylor is not up to something sinister, a simple check with the bus manufacturer, Zyle Daewoo Commercial Vehicle of South Korea would have settled the needless banter over the prices of the buses without bringing the name of the company and other innocent people into disrepute.
Although the bus manufacturer, Zyle Daewoo Commercial Vehicle of South Korea has a reputable name to protect, I would like to believe that the management won’t waste their precious time on an inveterate propagandist, whose vicious conspiratorial plot has been uncovered, obviously, to the utter dismay of well-meaning Ghanaians.
The overarching question then is: how credible is the so-called anti-corruption crusader who has been constantly feeding the public with false information?
Clearly, the social media commentator, Kevin Taylor, lied through his teeth on the prices of the buses, and therefore discerning Ghanaians should take any future claims with a pinch of salt.
