So it was thirty minutes past Five on the evening of last week Wednesday, after battling with the snail's paced traffic of Accra's Kanda highway, I finally made it to the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE ) where I desperately sought to have a short meeting with the Executive Director, Ing Kwabena Agyei Agyepong. With my experience, observations, the generally accepted closing time for many public and private institutions in Ghana is at five o'clock sunset of every weekday job.
However much that I had a forlorn hope in looking forward to the manifestation of this important meeting with the Executive Director of GHIE Ing Kwabena Agyepong, I took solace in the wide adage "there's no harm in trying," and finally, luck smiled at me.
Just as I drove through the brown colored metal gate of GHIE, I glimpsed Mr. Kwabena Agyepong walking humbly and majestically to his car with his bag, of course briefcase held in his hand. After parking my car, I walked to the car of Mr Kwabena Agyepong whose car was just about moving. Mr. Kwabena Agyepong noticed I was walking towards him, thus he stopped the car, stepped out and welcomed me. After warm pleasantries exchanged, he walked me to his serenely receptive office. In the first few minutes of our convo, I saw in Kwabena a stoic, resolute, profound intuition, and the great if unheralded warrior, who at least is destined to save challenging situations.
I had not been to many Ghanaian institutions yet, I've been greatly impacted, my mindset positively shaped about Ghanaian institutions with the new burst of enthusiasm for administrative state of the GhIE being shepherded by the progressively rational, compassionate and noble minded Ing Kwabena Agyepong.
Contrary to the natural inclination for many aides, lackeys at the offices of Ministers, deputy ministers, Executive Directors, CEO's of various Ghanaian public institutions I've been to, and who wait to assist their bosses, that wasn't the case at the office of Mr Kwabena Agyepong. Frankly, after a while, Mr Kwabena Agyepong stepped out briefly to go have his personal computer from his car in his bid to spice up my mission at the GhIE. How humbling, altruistic and pleasant Ing Kwabena Agyepong is. The other supporting staffs I met at the GhIE marveled at Kwabena Agyepong's energy, his willingness to keep moving.
Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong is, to borrow the words of United States ambassador to the UN Niki Halley, a "hidden genius" and a fine gentleman. Thus far, it's gratifying to admit that, throughout my fruitful moments with Mr Kwabena Agyepong on that fateful Wednesday, he demonstrated to me one unique attribute of leadership- His exceptional ability to see the forest for the trees in crucial times. With Kwabena's unique astuteness, smart comport, and superb insights, I've no doubts about his formidable being as a Positive Change agent who's capable of providing leadership ballast and making great accomplishments in even other fields of endeavor.
Thank You Ing Kwabena Agyepong for honoring me. I appreciate this. Good luck in your future endeavors.
