Accra, Sept. 7, GNA - Mr Boakye-Dankwa Boadi, out-going Acting General Manager (AGM) and Supervising Chief Editor of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday appealed to the staff to maintain the Agency's credibility.
"I plead with you to maintain the credibility of the Agency. Let us hold high the banner of the Agency even when there is no money to operate smoothly and efficiently," he said.
Mr Boadi made the appeal at an Editorial Meeting to formally hand over to Mr Theophilus Mawusi Afele, News Editor who has been appointed by the Board of Directors as Acting General Manager of the Agency.
"I am leaving the Agency with my chest out. I am happy to work with this great institution and will always be proud of the Agency. I am satisfied that I am leaving the Agency in the hands of capable people who have toiled over the years to maintain the Agency, but not opportunists who think they should take the best out of the Agency," the outgoing AGM stated.
He said, 93I believe Mr Afele is capable of ensuring that people do not take us for granted. Some people who worked with the Agency died in service, some went home sick but I am going home healthy, alive and kicking.
"I am very much contended knowing that I played my part well. I did well under the circumstances, there are no apologies to make although being human, whatever I did was based on principle," he added.
Mr Afele thanked Mr Boadi for contributing to the growth of the Agency. 93I wish you a peaceful retirement and a healthy one. I pray you continue to stay healthy and use your talents wherever they will be needed," he added.
The GNA Board of Directors in a letter to Mr Afele dated September 2, signed by Mr Reginald D. Laryea, Chairman, said 93The GNA Board of Directors is pleased to appoint you as the Acting General Manager of the Agency.
"In view of the fact that the Acting General Manager is proceeding on leave prior to retirement effective September 7, 2011, your appointment takes effect on the same date till a substantive General Manager is appointed.
"It is hoped that you will work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in you by the Board", the letter stated.
